Dodd’s Restaurant
Rydal Road, Ambleside LA22 9AN
I know what you’re thinking - “Dodd” isn't the most Italian name you'll come across. I know a chap called Dodd. He's from Bolton and the only Italian thing about him is the football shirt of the Azzurri he wears for Five-a-Side.
We went on a Monday early evening and had no problems getting a table. This being the ever popular Lake District, it was starting to fill up by time we left at 7pm.
I had the Pork Belly with mash and Black Pudding. My fellow diners had Leg of Lamb and pasta dishes.
The pork was delicious, tender and cooked well, as was the black pudding. The mash wasn't the best and tasted like it had been sat around all day, with a plastic after taste. The rich, thin gravy complimented the dish and was seasoned well.
It wasn’t the cheapest meal, but what do you expect in this tourist trap town?
